Rich was a NASCAR fan. He chose California Speedway in Fontana for his official photo for his department "Youth" cards. (Rich is not leaning backwards. The track is at an angle - the photographer cut the photo incorrectly)

Officer Richard May, Jr., East Palo Alto Police Department, lost his life in the line of duty on Saturday January 7, 2006. Officer May had been with the East Palo Alto Police Department for 18 months and a veteran of law enforcement for 15 years, previously with the Lompoc Police Department. Officer May was also a veteran of the armed services serving in the Marine Corp in Operation Desert Storm.
